Public Sector Undertaking companies are owned by the Union Government of India or State Government or both. GATE score is used for screening in most of PSU recruitments. PSU majoring (51% or more) of the paid up share capital is held by any state governments or partly by the central governments and partly by one or more state governments.

After the introduction of Aptitude Test in GATE in 2010, the examination pattern became very similar to recruitment tests conducted by a lot of PSUs with aptitude and technical components. Hence, IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.) was the first PSU to use GATE-2010 score for screening in recruitment process of 2011. Later on, it was followed by other PSUs such as BHEL, NTPC, Power Grid and HECL in recruitment process of year 2012 on the basis of GATE-2011 score.

In year 2016, more than 30 PSUs will use GATE score for screening in their recruitment process. The positions and designations offered by these companies are with average starting CTC of 7-8 lakhs per annum which is almost at par with renowned B-schools of the country.
